Self-forgiveness - the Ultimate Freedom

I guess you know you are a self-growth junkie when you get excited to discover the first negative judgment you ever made about yourself! But those of you who are dedicated to learning and growing, probably understand what I am talking about. Though the belief that was formed way back in infancy is not a pleasant one, it is liberating to know that you are on your way to releasing a whole chain of negative beliefs that have made your ability to accept and love yourself near impossible.

In our first class on Self-forgiveness, we discovered how huge the lack of self-forgiveness really is. It isn't just a single incident, but, is a branch loaded with fruit. Over the years each failure, disappointment and hurt gets added onto this cluster. Eventually, even a seemingly small incident can be the proverbial "straw" that breaks the camel's back. No wonder the thought of forgiving self has seemed so difficult.

From the time we are little children we are told we are bad and wrong for even the smallest of incidents. Our parents in their own panic and overwhelm, often used bullying and intimidation to get us to behave. The sad part, though, is that as little kids we soak in all these admonishments and ultimately conclude that we really are bad. This is where the seed of unforgiveness was first planted. What was the original incident where we planted that first seed? Mostly we discover conclusions made long ago that we are unloveable, or bad or even unforgiveable. With the weight of all these past incidents on us and a culture that loves to point the finger of blame instead of taking responsiblity, it makes perfect sense that forgiving yourself is going to be one of the hardest things you've ever done.

The liberating part, though is that if judgments lock you up, releasing them should do just the reverse. When you open up and stop holding yourself back, life can finally be all that you have hoped it would be. As a self-growth junkie, what drives me is the sense of a magical future. Not just a mediocre one, but one where all the love, happiness and success I've always longed for is within my grasp and comes in easily AND remains consistent. Many of us know how to create success, but we want it to stay! You know this is possible, but if you are living your life under a heavy wet blanket of unforgiveability, it is really hard to stand up with this weight on your shoulders every day. And, obviously, it is impossible to soar!

Only one week into this self-forgiveness class and I expect you can feel my enthusiasm. Finding the original seed of unforgiveability is already opening the door of new opportunities. That wet blanket may not yet be totally off your shoulders, but the unraveling has begun and as each day passes and the ahas continue, the blanket is already getting lighter. Successes are showing themselves - if only a trend in a new direction or a whisper of something about to be.

Self-forgiveness is the Ultimate Freedom - Forgiving Self for all the mistakes, hurts and painful acts of the past. More and more the sun of a bright future keeps showing itself and you only have to get out from under that heavy, wet blanket in order to see it!
